Batlagundu is located at geographical coordinates of 10.1655°North and 77.7594°East with an average elevation of 242 meters above sea level. It is the 5th largest town in Dindigul district by area. The region experiences the cool breeze during the Southeast Monsoon. It receives a good rainfall during Monsoon.

The city has been ruled by different rulers from time to time including Pandiyan, Cholas, Madurai Nayakas and the British. Tamil is the local language spoken here.
